Parking Douchebaggery
by Andrew on January 21, 2016
It’s not often I walk out to my car and find the words, “Fuck You” scrawled in the dirt and grime on my windows.  It only happened once that I can think of, and that was this past Sunday night.  You might not expect me to smile about it but I did, since I kind of invited the profanity and had half expected worse.
While trying to park at the movie theater I came across one of those inconsiderate douchebags who feels his car is worthy of two parking spots.  You know the type.  They may park diagonally across two spots just blatantly saying, “My car is too good for one spot and I get to make the rules.”  Or, they may be of the more subtle variety, choosing to park on the line so they aren’t technically in two spots but there still isn’t any room to park unless you want your doors dinged. Â
This type of thing makes me wonder, “Who is the asshole?  The asshole who acts like an asshole, or the person who commits a bit of assholery in order to call out the asshole for acting like an asshole?”  Did you get all that?
I’m the latter and that’s where driving a beat up, rusting, 15 year old jeep comes in handy.  Ding my doors and who’d notice?  The roof is rusting as is the hood.  It’s clearly seen better days.  So with my nephew’s guidance I re-parked my Jeep and went in to see The Revenant.  A fine movie, but the violence had me concerned the guy I parked next to might be in the same theater getting ideas about how to respond. Â
No worry, he left a message that was more pleasing than insulting.  Clearly he didn’t see the problem.  But what can you expect from someone like that?  He would’ve better to drive off, leaving me with no indication that he’d been inconvenienced.  I only hope he had a date with him who was left largely unimpressed by his retort. Â
Or maybe I was being an asshole.
