I see this sort of thing all the time.  Usable items set out next to a trash bin.  I’ve mentioned it before but it’s the kind of thing where I wonder if the soon-to-be-former owner of these items is just too lazy to put a free sign on it, or even too lazy to lift it into the dumpster.

Either way, there always seems to be a bit of ambiguity, as if the owner is thinking, I don’t know if anyone would want this shit, so I’ll just leave it kind of close to the trash bin and if it doesn’t get taken, the trash man will pick it up.

Free or Trash? Hard to tell.

The other possibility is that the item is so questionable that the owner is avoiding the humiliation of nobody wanting their stuff, even if it is free.  By not attaching a free sign, if nobody takes it then, well, I was just throwing it away anyway.

So now I have a  new SOTC category: Free or Trash.
